ENTRY 04

whalephin-desktop

BREWING

A Linux desktop port of Whalephin, a Jellyfin client powered by Compose Multiplatform and MPV.

In the workshop — no public build or links yet.

  • Kotlin
  • Linux
  • MIT

Why it's yours

Still brewing. MIT when it ships — built to be owned: your hardware, your data, no lock-in.

The problem

A Linux desktop port of Whalephin, a Jellyfin client powered by Compose Multiplatform and MPV.

Whalephin already speaks Jellyfin, but there is no Linux desktop way to use it — you either run it in a browser or leave the desktop behind.

What you do

Port Whalephin to Linux desktop and play from it.

  1. Sign in to your Jellyfin server from the Compose Multiplatform shell.
  2. Browse your library from the desktop.
  3. Play through MPV with its playback engine.

What you get

  • Whalephin on Linux. The same Jellyfin client, brought to Linux desktop.
  • Compose Multiplatform shell. One Kotlin codebase carried across to the desktop.
  • MPV playback. Playback runs through MPV, natively tied to the desktop.
  • Still brewing in the workshop — no public build or links yet.
